Health & Freedom: Wellness Discussion
Each of the four dimensions of life, physical, mental, social, and spiritual depend upon the correct working of the underlying health components. A healthy body and mind lay the foundation for all creative expressions, social interaction, spiritual insight. The balanced interaction of all four of these separate aspects of life result in optimum health, long life, and inner peace.
Learn how to incorporate these principles into your daily life and you will be practicing preventive medicine. If you really want to feel your best and live a long, full life, give careful consideration to: physical activity, your environment, a healthy diet, a healthy weight, adequate rest, prevention, in control (free of dependencies such as smoking, alcohol, drugs), outlook/emotions, community, and spirituality.
Don't wait until an emergency forces you to take your health seriously. Please join us for ongoing lectures on various topics related to Health and Freedom. The next presentation, Strategies for Improved Living , will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2007 from 6:30-7:30 PM.
Amy Hendrick - LIVE
Amy Hedrick has a unique style of ear bleeding words crafted with some mellow funk, edgy electronica, and simple acoustic riffs all woven together to deliver her own brand of truth. You may get a funked up sex poem, an in-your-face political rant, or a true-to-life piece on abuse. You may never know what to expect from Amy, except the unexpected.
Don't let her rough edges fool you; there is an intelligent honesty to her work, and you can feel her need to spread her words as far as her voice will reach. Not for the weak at heart, while often appearing politically incorrect, Amy will always lead you away from the obvious conclusions you may think you have already drawn.
True to her roots in political activism, gay rights, and womyn's issues, Amy will drag you willingly down her path to make you laugh, cry, and gasp maybe all within the same breath. Never afraid to make someone uncomfortable, she will challenge you to challenge yourself. In the tradition of Alix Olson, but with her own brand of delivery, Amy is here to make you think, not to hold your hand and walk you peacefully through the process. Hang on, it may be a bumpy ride, but one you will be glad you took.
Tickets will be $8 in advance or $12 at the door and will go on sale soon! Call us at (574) 254-1411 for more information.
Diversity of the Arts - A Community Celebration
Our community is as diverse as the colors on the rainbow flag we proudly wave, and one of the ways we tout our individuality is through the arts.
On Sunday, December 9, the GLBT Resource Center, in cooperation with AIDS Ministries/AIDS Assist of South Bend, will be hosting an art auction in celebration of diversity in art and our community.
We are currently looking for donations for the auction. If you are an artist, a collector, or just someone with something to give, and would like to donate for the auction, please contact Mary Lee Wessels with AIDS Ministries via email or telephone, (574) 234-2870. You can also contact Tricia Wainscott with the GLBT Resource Center, (574) 254-1411.
